La Copa golf group, Winter Texan's


Week one started on Dec 30th with only a few golfers who stay at the La Copa Inn for the winter.

There are also some golfers who who stay at other Parks In the area surrounding Harlingen Tx. and  play in the La Copa League on Friday's starting at 10 AM,

14 golfers took part on Friday the 13th golf at Cottonwood course.

the day was nice and sunny with a typical wind that blows in southern Texas.

Teams were made up by drawing colored tees supplied by Joyce.

the Reds were Richard, Joyce, Bev, Doug and Bill.

the Whites were Dan, Don, Tony, Keith and Jim.

The Blues were Kent, Duane, Gerry and Teresa.

Each player played  their own ball and scores, at the end of each hole the lowest score was used as the team score.

The Red team won the bragging rights for the week with an even par 27.

The Blue team turned in a 30.

The White team right behind with a 31.

The best individual scores were Joyce and Richard (each had a birdie) with 33's
Bill 41, Bev 43, Doug 37, Duane 36, Kent 39, Teresa 37, Gerry 35, Don 36, Dan 39, Jim 51, Tony 45, Keith 35.

Next Weeks Format will be using Dice to see  who's tee shots will be used on Each hole. This fun and frustrating format.

Sept 8th 2016
Windup for the Thursday's seniors golf, with 15 golfers taking part.
Scheduling a golf outing in September is a crap shoot at the best of times, this
year for the 5 days leading up to the windup golf and dinner the weather forecast was for
rain all day. even up to 8 am it looked like rain but the golf gods had pity on us and the sky
started to clear and by the time we teed off at 9am , the weather was good.
Thanks to Ed Kennedy for organizing the teams every week and for looking after the
winners and losers all summer.
Thanks to Pete Barna for taking care of the prizes for the event.
thanks also goes to Motown for a great meal at the end of the day.
for the wind-up players were grouped by handicap , the highest with the lowest two-man teams
combining their scores and deducting their handicap.
The team of Jean Lambert and Richard Lampi took the top honors with a net score of 148.
the team of Scotty Russell and Wayne Thomas, tied for second, with the team of Franco Calvelli George Coulson
with a net score of 151.
Coming in third place was the threesome of Brian McLeod, Harold Mosley and Ted McLeod with a net score of 160.
claiming the fourth spot with a net of 168 were Jerry Cripps and Steve Splowski. Steve was the oldest golfer , 87 years young.
The fifth spot was shared with two teams, Vern Herbert and Pete Barna's team, Ed Kennedy and Brian McCallum .
Jean Lambert shot a pair of 42's for a gross score of 84, the lowest of the day.

Wayne Thomas score a birdie on #5 and followed that with a birdie on # 6, Jerry Cripps birdied # 4, those were the only birdies scored on the day.
Senior golf on Thursday mornings will continue until the coarse is closed, with a start time of 9.30 am. for the next couple of weeks.

Seniors thursdays Sept 1 2016

the sun was shining and  there was heavy dew on the grass when the golfers teed off.

13 golfers took part in the 18 holes of golf, Max Clement played his first round of golf with the seniors this year and the age of  90,  showed that he has not lost  any distance or accuracy on the links. Max does play regularly but normally only plays 9 holes.

The foursome of Jerry Cripps, Brian McCallum sr, Ed Kennedy and Jean Lambert turned in the best score of the day with a 2 under 70, giving them bragging rights for the day.

Wayne Thomas, Richard Lampi and Pete Barna shot a 71 for second place.

Coming in  third were the threesome of Ray Laquerre, George Coulson and Max Clement by turning in a 73.

Fourth place went to Franco Calvelli, Brian McLeod and Leo Lamarche with a 76 score.

the format for the day was a scramble from the red tees and each golfer had to use two drives on each nine.

even under this format the course only gave up 8 birdies on the day. 4 of them were on the par 5 holes.

2016 senior men’s club championship at Little Falls Golf Club
Tim Fairburn wins the Senior men’s club championship with a round of 79, a one stroke victory over last years winner, Mark Clark .
Tim also had the longest drive and closest to the pin on # 11, (31′ 6″).
Mark Clark and Jean Lambert with a 70 for the low net in the first flight
Other closet to the pin winners were Jean Lambert 18′ 2″ on # 2,
Pete Barna 53″ on hole # 6 and Allan Bruyere 7′ 1″ on # 15
23 Players took part in the club championship.
Flight two winner, Barry Anderson shot a 89 with Ted McLeod taking the low net with a 68, Pete Barna took second low net with a 70.
Brian McLeod won the third flight with a 90. Richard Lampi shot a low net of 66 while Lance Beauregard took the 2nd low net with a 72.

    Senior mens open golf tournament played at Little Falls golf Club Aug. 9 2016

    Kevin Cain Wins the Senior Mens Open at Little Falls Golf Course on Aug 9th 2016

    Kevin played the front nine in a 38 and improved his score on the back nine with a 37 for a 75 on the day.

    He was tied with Greg Tighe with two holes to play, he  parred the last two holes while Greg took bogies
     on 17 and 18 leaving Kevin with a two stroke victory.

    Larry Ogden took the low net with a 67


    70 golfers took part in the tourney and played in nice warm sunny conditions with light winds.

    Kevin Was Presented with the Trophy by Ray Laquerre, the tournament chairman.

    Senior's golf june 23 2016

    The Weather was perfect for golf today, sunny with very little wind.

    17 golfers hit the links, for 18 holes of scramble golf.

    Off on hole one was Harold, Ted and Ray, they toured the course in 73 .
    they had one birdie and one bogey for a 36 going out and coming in they had 3 bogies and one birdie for 37. This was good for 3rd place on the day.

    Hole 2 started the day for Vern C, Jerry C and Lance B,  They had a birdie on # 6 and turned in a 76 for the day.

    Franco C, Allan B and Peter B, had three birdies and two bogeys and turned in the best score of the day, a 71.

    Ed K, Gene L, Steve S and Brian M. started on hole 4 and score two birdies and a few bogeys on their way to a 78.

    Richard , George, Gary L and Don Mac played from the 5th hole shooting pars ano the front nine and two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine for an even par 72, good for second place.

    Each player had to use two of his drives on the front and two on the back nine.

    All the players hit from the red tees all day.
